Life Interwoven breathes new life into the traditional skills and craft developed over generations in South East Asia. In doing so, we help create an entrepreneurial system of support for disadvantaged, local communities.
Working with local artisans and community members, Life Interwoven helps move them towards a fair, sustainable, livelihood. Artisans are ‘re-presented’ to new markets, who get to see and experience just how beautiful and relevant their products are, no matter where they live. Local community makers offer skills and artistry in return for a fair wage so that they can live a dignified life and send their children to school.
All of the products are both ethical and sustainable and range from gorgeous homewares to unique accessories and fashion.
We partner with a number of artisan groups around South East Asia. Through Life Interwoven’s sale scheme, these people can increase their income, allowing them to provide for their families, and maintain their local communities.
Suwanna Hardwick, a Thai Native, migrated to Australia after married to her Australian husband, David Hardwick. She worked full-time for corporates while she was in Thailand but on weekends she worked with refugees living on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Suwanna worked for over ten years in homes for disadvantaged children. She sought out donations of money or materials from companies in Thailand, recruited friends and used her own income to help the children. She also assisted refugees in locating Thai relatives which meant they could apply for Thai citizenship allowing them to leave the refugee camps and build lives for themselves.
Inspired by the book, “Social Business” by Mohammud Yunus, and believing that a trading business set up to help people in positive ways would have a more lasting effect than direct donations, Suwanna, her husband and several like-minded friends who were keen to assist with funding the start-up social enterprise started – Life Interwoven in 2014.
